You know, we usually write about how to get things done quicker, how to be more efficient, or how to grow your business. We usually talk about how to do your job well.
But today I want to talk about something else. I want to talk about doing good.
That’s right, not about doing better at work, but about doing something good for someone else today.
We live amongst tragedies that happen all around us. News like MH373’s disappearance, Washington State’s mudslide (where I’m located), and earthquakes all over the world, sometimes things can even get personal.
In my case, I live in Washington state less than 1 hour away from that mudslide. Northern Chile has been shaking like crazy with earthquakes above 6.0 several times a day for the past week. I lived there for 3 and 1/2 years and personally know someone who died as a result of those quakes.
And, while I didn’t know anyone personally on MH373, having a family (and a 1yo baby) forces you to have a lot more empathy for those involved.
So it’s time for us to do something good to counteract all the bad in the world. Today, take some time to think of how you can help someone else. Look for opportunities to serve.
Spend even just 15 seconds of your time to hold the door for someone you don’t know, or help someone pick up something they’ve dropped. You’ll find that even the smallest acts of kindness can go a long way.
If you have more time, you could donate time volunteering at a local soup kitchen or passing out sack lunches to those who need it. You could also spend an hour picking up trash or debris on someone else’s property. Everything helps.
Let’s do some good and make the world a better place for all of us to live in, if even just for today.
